Dear Sergey,

There is no need to have been involved in free software projects before GSoC, but we do hope for people that can demonstrate that they are able to program and will succeed with (realistic and useful) goals.  Regardless, you should have this discussion with Jeff on the gnunet-developer mailinglist (address@hidden).  There, you should try to explain what your technical background is, what you'd like to do and hopefully develop a good project proposal.  Naturally, there isn't much time left now, but I think it could still be done. And if not, maybe next year!

Happy hacking!

Christian

Hello,

My name is Sergey Sherkunov, I am a second year student of the
South Russian State Technical University, I'm 19 years old,
programming in C and Rust, their skills in these programming
languages was assessed as medium. I want to participate in GSoC
and contribute to the GNU community, but I doubt that I can,
because I have never been involved in major Open Source projects
and programmed mostly for themselves. Unfortunately, on the
GSoC, I learned just yesterday. So I want to ask if I can participate in
GSoC, not having much experience?
1. If yes, then I want to consult, what idea do I get. For example, I
liked the idea of "Rust implementation of GNUnet utils", but how
hard it is?
2 If not, what steps to take to me to take part in the next year?

In any case, I'm not going to be limited to GSoC, I would like to
continue to contribute to the development of free software.

Thank you and sorry for bad english,
Sergey Sherkunov.
