I, along with the rest of the Octave maintainers, am overall very
pleased with the student we got for Octave. He worked quickly and
efficiently and met all of our expectations for getting a profiler
into Octave. The profiler will be a very welcome addition for Octave's
next stable release.
We may try to apply next year for GSoC as a separate organisation.
Some other GNU projects do this, and I believe Octave is large enough
to attempt to do so. I think we have enough mentorship resources for
it. Although I didn't have a backup mentor for Daniel, other Octave
developers answered his questions in the mailing list, so I had a lot
of unofficial help with him.
It was also a lot of fun. I'm very happy to see how well it all went.
I would definitely want to do it again next year.
