Hi,

What version are you using, latest dev? Simulavr supports atmega328, so 
your option is not supported. I'm not sure if your code is 100% 
compatible, but you can try it. You should see a message like this when 
you run simulavr:

Waiting on port 1212 for gdb client to connect...

without it avr-gdb won't connect.
