Hello,
Attached an updated patch for non-recursive makefile (still work-in-progress).
Remaining issues:
1. "make distcheck" fails with doc/dvi related issue (mentioned before).
2. On older systems (e.g. CentOS 6, OpenBSD 5.8), building gnulib-tests fails
with the likes of:
