==== Description: ====
The goal is to develop a general purpose framework for creating Browser-Based
role playing games. The project uses PHP as a server-side language with a
database backend (currently supporting multiple DB engines using the database
layer borrowed from phpBB, which we hope to replace with our own code.) The
client side uses AJAX techniques to exchange data with the server and update
the interface.

The general format for such games is an asynchronous turn-based mechanism
where players are limited in their number of actions within a set time period
("Action Points"), but do not have to wait for other players to act. Maps are
based on an orthographic tile structure.

The current version supports maps of arbitrary size and shape, NPC scripting
with a basic API interface, basic player classes ("teams") and a variety of
item types. The framework is being designed in a manner to allow additional
items, NPCs and other functions to be added with little or no change to the
core code.

The current (and greatly unfinished) source code can be obtained here:

==== Other Software Required: ====
The project requires PHP to be installed, a web server of any type (that
supports PHP obviously), and a database engine (MySQL preferred)

==== Other Comments: ====
Please note that "UrbanSonic" was a working title, and something of an
in-joke, when the project was started. This name may be used throughout the
code but it not the 'real' project name. Originally it was intended to be a
game based loosely on a Sonic the Hedgehog theme so there are still many
references to this as well.

There are also some leftover bits of phpBB's template.php engine which is
being phased out with the change to the AJAX driven interface.

Since there is no data included with the source, there is a "live" demo
currently available at:

(Be gentle on the server - it is not intended for public access!)
