  Traverso is a multitrack audio recording and editing tool for GNU/Linux.
It's written in C++, and uses the Qt toolkit, version 4.0.0 or higher, and
aims to be fast, easy
to use, and leight on system resources.

Traverso uses the concept of "Soft Selection".
With Soft Selection, what the mouse cursors points to is "selected", and
instead
of using a menu to perform some action, a keyboard key or key sequence is
used.
This both un-clutters the interface, and speeds up frequently and often used
editing 
and or program controll actions.
A special kind of mouse-keyboard action is when the user "holds" a key and
moves the 
mouse. In that case, analogue actions can be performed, like changing the
gain of a Track, 
or AudioClip which is a very valuable addition to the GUI.

Traverso has only a few dependencies on other programs, since Qt offers
almost everything 
to build up a solid program.

Both ALSA and Jack can be used as audio engine backends, special care is
taken to be as 
realtime friendly as possible to garantee undisturbed audio
recording/playback.
To accomplish this, locks and direct read/writes to the file system are
avoided by using 
a lockless design (e.g. by using lockless ringbuffers to read/write from/to
the file system).
