2d6 System Reference Book
2d6 is a role-playing game similar to that of d20 by Wizards of the Coast
with two main differences: It is open sourced under the GNU GPL license, and
it uses six-sided dice rather than the rather harder to find twenty-sided
ones. The book is currently in idea stage but we have the scripts that make
the book and the book's layout all ready. You can download the source code at
the following URL: http://omfgbbq.net/book.tar.gz
We plan to be working on the book A LOT in the next month, and once the book
is in a usable state, we will set up a nightly build system. Our RPG system
is designed to be flexible, so you can play with the default fantasy setting,
a pre-made fantasy setting, a pre-made modern setting, or any setting you can
think of. The possibilities are endless, and because 2d6 is under the GPL,
anyone can change the 2d6 System Reference Books and release it without any
worry of copyright infringement.
We think 2d6 will make it a lot easier for new role-players because they
don't have to go to a special gaming store to get the books OR the dice.
Other Software Required:
------------------------
TeX (Public domain. At our development site, we use the tetex package.
http://tug.org/tetex/ )
DviPS (GNUGPL, http://www.radicaleye.com/dvipsman/dvips.html )
ESP Ghostscript (GNUGPL, http://sourceforge.net/projects/espgs )
The only other tool needed to build is some kind of shell (eg /bin/sh on
GNU/Linux systems) to run the build scripts.
