###### ORIGINAL SUBMISSION DETAILS ######

System Group Name:
-----------------
  cccvs

Full Name:
----------
  Concurrent Versions System

Type:
-----
  non-GNU software & documentation

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Other License:
--------------

Description:
------------
CVS is the Concurrent Versions System, the dominant open-source
network-transparent version control system. CVS is useful for everyone from
individual developers to large, distributed teams:

    * Its client-server access method lets developers access the latest code
from anywhere there's an Internet connection.
    * Its unreserved check-out model to version control avoids artificial
conflicts common with the exclusive check-out model.
    * Its client tools are available on most platforms.

This is the actual CVS, currently hosted on cvshome.org, and I am one of three
principal maintainers. The CVS maintainers have agreed that it would be a
good idea to move from cvshome.org to Savannah. I can open a ticket to import
the original CVS CVS repository once this project is approved.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
These are probably considered as found in a minimal free OS, but:

zlib
GNU diffutils
GNULIB

Other Comments:
---------------
I'm not sure I like the system name I chose - "cvs" is ruled out if you use
it as a repository module name since it conflicts with the "CVS" metadir on
checkout to a case-insensitive file system like WOE32, but the "ccvs" we use
elsewhere and which CVS developers are used to already appears to be taken on
Savannah.

Perhaps something like "-cvs", or even "Ccvs", since I presume your file
system is case sensitive, would be more appropriate.

Finally, I declared that CVS is non-GNU software because it seemed simplest
and I have never received an email on this topic from RMS, as your page
suggested I should have, but it is listed as both GNU and non-GNU in various
locations on www.gnu.org. I have asked address@hidden for clarification on this
topic in the past without receiving a response. I am happy to leave it listed
as non-GNU if it seems simplest and/or fastest, but if you know how to receive
timely clarifcation on this issue, please feel free to do so and change the
listed status if necessary.
