$ CVS_RSH=ssh cvs -z3
-d:ext:address@hidden:/sources/simulavr co -d
simulavrxx-write simulavrxx
Received disconnect from 199.232.41.69: 2: Too many authentication failures
for joelsherrill
cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if
any)

And changed the host name in my .ssh/config.  This is now 
the host stanza:

Host cvs.savannah.nongnu.org
ForwardX11 no
IdentityFile  ~/.ssh/savannah

ssh-agent is not running.
