[Savannah-hackers-public] connection with free software directory |

Hi Michael and everyone - John Sullivan (FSF executive director)
suggested that the Free Software Directory and Savannah could mutually
benefit from a couple simple connections. Both the FSD and Savannah do
very nearly the same review -- proper licensing. In theory, to the same
point of checking individual files as we do.
Thus, we could put a link on the review page to a search of the
directory, and if it's been reviewed already for the directory, shortcut
the review. One thing to watch out for, though: the directory (by
design) accepts any free software license, while savannah (by design)
accepts only gpl-compatible licenses. It's rarely an issue in practice,
but gotta be aware.
We could also put a box on the registration page so that if a
package is already in the fsd, they can tell us the name. That will
hopefully also have the effect of increasing submissions to the
directory, which is a good thing in principle.
Wdyt?
k
