YAY! *WE* DID IT!!! Hi everybody.
Well, I figured out what the problems were. In no particular order, they
were:
1.) When I tried to seperate the scripts into different parts, I needed to
do a pivot_root. It was difficult for me to figure it out, but I managed to
get to work.
2.) /etc/lilo.conf wasn't being copied properly.
3.) rpm --initdb needed to be run once and only once.
More good news: I found out that there many rpms in base_packages that don't
need to be installed, just to get the system to boot. For example:
pci_utils, eject, etc.
It took approx. 2 hours, plus the time it took to figure out what went
wrong. I think that I'm going to make it download a few of them at a time,
and install them from there. Also, I added a line to one of the scripts to
delete the rpm after it has been installed. I need to find a way to make
sure that it has been installed, before deleting, but for the most part it
works okay.
Total amount of disk usage for 99 rpms: 231662 KB.
I have 229962 KB left over. Once everything is working, I'm going to install
XFree86.
I used Slinky 0.2.3. The last 2 versions seem to have problems with loading
the ne.o module.
I'd like to make a customized disk2 to have several stage scripts:
stage_1.sh, stage_2.sh, stage_last, etc.
Any questions?
Sincerely, and with thanks,
Eugene T.S. Wong
