Andrew,

Yes, I am running as root on the machine being backed up, though I'm connecting as a normal user to the destination machine.  Can you try doing a second backup (to the same destination) and see if it still works?  That seems to be where I run into problems.  Also I'm running v1.1.5 which is the latest available via Fink.  Do the newer versions have a fix for this particular issue?

Thanks,
Corey

Corey,

Did you run rdiff-backup as root? The permissions on that directory are:

drw-------   4 root    wheel     136B Feb 21 18:49 Spotlight-V100

If you don't run rdiff-backup as root, you cannot backup that directory
(no backup program can!). I just ran:

sudo rdiff-backup Spotlight-V100 Spotlight-V100.backup

and it worked perfectly. I think if you run rdiff-backup as root you
won't run into any problems.

Chris, rdiff-backup will adjust permissions as necessary (eg, adding 100
to Spotlight-V100 during backup), but you have to be the file's owner to
do so (or root).

Cheers,
Andrew
