Hi,

I am using rdiff-backup to back up some boxes to a single one with a
big disk. All boxes have different /etc/passwd files, and I would like
to be able to restore the current version of a subtree without using
rdiff-backup. That should be possible, right?

However, rdiff-backup tries to be smart regarding owner/group of a
file. Is there an easy way to turn off that kind of smartness
completely, with rdiff-backup using only the numeric uid?

If I understood the docs correctly, I would have to build a uid and
gid mapping file from /etc/passwd on the source system to do that.

Or is there a more easy way?

Greetings
Marc
