Yes, I wasn't expecting anything from it.

Ok so it should work ...

Could you try to rebuild it with the configure below :

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
./configure --with-xrandr --enable-debug
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

And then grep in ratpoison output :

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
ratpoison > rp_debug
grep "Xrandr version" rp_debug
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
