[RP] netbeans under RP

In my job I'm going to have to do at least a little bit of work with
NetBeans, which so far doesn't work well under RP: I a little startup
window with a progress bar, and then a big grey screen.  I also get
the grey screen if I run NetBeans "unmanaged".  It works OK under
Unity/GNOME.

Ideally I could convince my colleagues to get rid of the NetBeans
"dependency" - until that time, can you suggest some other option
besides using Unity?
