Oops!  I sent that patch off too quickly.  While it did fix a bug, it failed to fix a similar bug a few lines later in the code.  The patch I've attached to this email fixes both problems.

There's been a bug in the 'number' command for a little while and it's been a hard one to squash.  I've attached a (very small) patch that takes care of the sometimes fatal problems with that command.
