Thanks. Btw, please tell me, you were just using
"dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot" to build ratpoison before, right?
I am determined to free myself from the tyranny of debhelper. :-) I
will make a makefile include file like what we use in BSD. The current
problem is that the programs like dpkg-buildpackage, dpkg --build, don't
document very well EXACTLY what they do; it's hard to know where the
debian/rules file should leave off and let the other tools do their
work. In other words, the interfaces aren't very well defined unless
you were involved in writing the tools themselves, or have read the
source code.

Gergely, can you explain to me how in the bejeezuz you were using your
debian/rules to generate a usable package? I had to bang my head
against debhelper for 5 hours before I generated the packages I
uploaded. If you download the source package, you can see what I
changed about your rules file. Not that your style was bad; it was good
in a high-level sort of way; but it just didn't work for me. It had all
kinds of tiny little errors.
I'll have a look at it... the debian/rules hasn't been updated for
sometime, so there might have been changes in RP which broke it
badly.
