You need to get the updated scope.sh too:

rm ~/.config/ranger/scope.sh
ranger --copy-config=scope

I updated from

git clone git://git.savannah.nongnu.org/ranger.git
cd ranger
make install

still I have the same issue.

address@hidden:~$ ranger --version
ranger-master 1.5.5

Python 2.7.3 (default, Aug 1 2012, 05:14:39)
[GCC 4.6.3]

this is 100% reproducible.
ranger will hangle the whole terminal whenever moving cursor onto a
rar file that was password-protected.
no ctrl-c , ctrl-z , etcwill be accepted...
can this be fix?
Should be fixed now. You need to update ranger from git and get a fresh
scope.sh for the fix to have an effect.

Sadly I couldn't find a general fix for this type of problem, I only
bypassed the most common case.
