Yes there are several Mac OS 9 machines that Dual G4’s work just fine with.

It’s the Apple CPU Plug-in in the /System/Extension/Multiprocessor  folder that controls all the SMP stuff for OS 9 apps, but other than that the OS does not use more than 1 core.

The CPU Plugin goes to abort when it finds more than 4 CPUs.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard seems to honor the “ soft-reset” property if we add this to Openbios, while Tiger seems to ignore it and use the other GPIO properties.

I do not know about Leopard, not enough space left on my drive for a Leopard boot image.

Snow Leopard seem to write 0x4 to 0x72( soft-reset ) then it writes 0x5 to 0x72 and expects this to soft-reset CPU1.

I’ll dig out my Quad and see what GPIO properties it has in the device-tree……..

Balaton can you write a brief description of the patches for the GPIO you’ve submitted so I can try to get a basic understanding of what was done?

I've asked this before but does MacOS run on real Dual G4 PowerMac?
