The nvram saving is upstream and does not need any patches and works the same as on q800 so could be documentes but it's probably not needed so maybe no need to mention to confuse people less with options they don't normally need. So I agree that maybe it's not that important to add there.
By the way using if=mtd for nvram is kind of arbitrary, some other machines use pflash or something else. Maybe a -nvram or a new interface type for drive for these could be a better UI for this but somebody would need to propose a patch for that.
