Okay, I see that vlan=n is required to relate each tap to each nic.
But when I add more than 8 NICs, qemu fails with:

qemu-system-x86_64: -net
nic,vlan=8,macaddr=00:16:3E:F9:82:53,model=virtio: Too Many NICs
qemu-system-x86_64: -net
nic,vlan=8,macaddr=00:16:3E:F9:82:53,model=virtio: Device 'nic' could
not be initialized

Is it possible to configure MAX_NICS without having to recompile Qemu?
I'm using Qemu 2.0.0
