Switching from svn->git is independent of this set of guidelines, but...I really want it to happen and I believe that unless something has changed recently, it's going to happen in the near future. For dealing with a project like QEMU, svn is actually pretty painful to work with. I've had to write a large number of scripts to simulate behavior similar to git whereas I can commit a large number of patches at once. Of course, this isn't always perfect and if you watch the mailing list, you'll see that sometimes svn adds don't happen when they should.
