Would it even work on Sparc64/Solaris 10 any more?
Who knows? The only way is to try.

qemu no longer compiles on Solaris 10 due to C99 issues in
nbd. It will compile on Solaris Express.

adding c99 or gnuc99 also doesn't work because of
anonymous unions not being supported.

GCC on Solaris doesn't support anonymous unions? That seems bizarre. Or are you using the Sun compiler?

Is it block-nbd or qemu-nbd that doesn't work? If it's the later, it's easy enough to prevent it from building on Solaris.
