Tried that, and succeeded.
Turned out that Thiemo's patch labeled "[Qemu-devel] [PATCH 3/8] Mips
improvements" did not just clean up the code as its description said,
but removed a call to do_raise_exception(EXCP_EXT_INTERRUPT); That
made my Linux boot, finally,
