Welcome. You should however be aware, that 1.6.2 is extremely old. There are
a lot of unresulved bugs in that version. It is also missing features which
are present in the latest.
I recommend you upgrade to 2.0.1

I think in 2.0.x it works fine.

Again, 2.0 might work better. In general, however we don't recommend using
Excel. Convert your spreadsheets to libreoffice or gnumeric format and
interoperability is much smoother.

There is no undo feature for most operations, because it would not scale.
Deleting multiple cells however should be no problem.
