Well - found out that I can indeed close it independently with a mouse in the window title bar. But it lacks Ctrl-W support and does not have a "close" under File-Menu.

That shouldn't be the case. They should close independently. Maybe
there's a bug causing a crash when you close one. (I just tried and
that doesn't happen for me.)
