Sadly no. This is not a issue with translation. It happens even on en_US 
locale. The
menu appears as Data -> Ascending, but it should be Data -> Sort cases. 
The problem seems to
be that this menu entry is being created as a 'gtk-sort-ascending' 
(psppire-data-window.c:1453)
and gtk simply ignores what is on the label (data-editor.glade:318).
