Regarding downloading google maps tiles:
Well, I'm not a lawyer so I don't really know...

At least nobody complained so far...

As alternatives for sat images you can currently select Bing or MapQuest Open Aerial (if it has tiles for that area).

Hi all,

just a quick note to let you all know that we changed the directory where the google maps tiles are stored in the master branch (verison v5.3_devel-282-g3fd4b18).

For consistency with other tile sources they are now in var/maps/Google and not directly in var/maps anymore.

So if you use latest master and you want to keep using your already downloaded tiles, you can simply copy all *.jpg files from var/maps to var/maps/Google.
