Re: [Paparazzi-devel] Aerocomm API

I added /paparazzi/paparazzi3 /sw/aerocomm to the CVS tree (finally configured cvs on my laptop) for temporary storage. Files still need to be cleaned up and integrated into the main tree. Namely, downlink.h, datalink.h, link.ml. I will do that later, but for those who want to used aerocomm right away, go ahead and do it youself :), it is not that difficult.

Just to correct a misconception - the serial cable replacement mode provides full 2-way communication and may even be more efficient than API mode as it lacks the address data and other protocol overhead.  The buffer sizes and timeouts can be configured on Maxstream and other modems for better efficiency with some trial/error or clever analysis wether it is in API mode or not.  The best approach to modem efficency has already begun with the implementation of hardware flow control on the Tiny 2.x.

Pascal,

did you update the cvs with RomanĀ“s Aerocomm API files ?  If so which files are affected and what will be the changes in the airframe file ?

thx

Betreff: RE: [Paparazzi-devel] modem question

Hi Chen,

In current implementation MaxStream's Xbee-type modems and Aerocomm modems
can work in two modes: 1/ serial extension mode when modem acts as a serial
cable replacement; and 2/ as an active tranceiver where it uses its own
protocol to efficiently transmit autopilot telemetry wrapped in its own
protocol. Using serial cable replacement mode you will not be able to
transmit any data on to the airplane, only receive telemetry from it.

So, to answer your question, any modem (I think) will work as a serial cable
replacement. But if you want efficiency and fault proof, and to be able to
change parameters in flight you have to implement its own protocol with
adressed packets.

Sincerely,
Roman Krashanitsa
