The gyro should be mounted with the PCB perpendicular to the X (roll) axis of the aircraft. So the PCB should be parallel to the YZ plane of the aircraft. The rotation about the X axis is not important."
Also, does anyone know how to add this article to the list of articles that are shown here: http://paparazzi.enac.fr/wiki/index.php/Hardware
I couldn't find how to do when I was digging around in the mediawiki documentation.
no. It produces a (positive going) voltage for clockwise rotation about the axis normal to the package top. So in fact it is a z-axis (yaw) rate sensing device.
What about the gyro, does its rotation about the x axis matter?

Oops, seems i forgot a whole sentence...
look for
<define name="ROLL_DIRECTION" value="-1."/>
I had to change the sign to "+" means value="1." in order to use my gyro correctly.

Volker replied directly to me, so I have pasted the text of his email below.
So if I understand correctly, the PCB of the gyro needs to mounted in the YZ plane of the airframe perpendicular to the X axis. Am I correct that rotation about the X axis is not important?
You lost me with this: "Just take the setting in the gyro section of the funjet1.xml airframe file, my sign hat to be >changed respectively."
What does "my sign hat to be >changed respectively" mean?
I looked in the gyro section, and as I understand it, I will have to take the values from the gyro when the airframe is level and unmoving and set them for roll neutral and temp neutral?
With respect to the modem, I think I will have to experiment with different mounting options. In the front of the plane, I have the motor and esc, then toward the middle, the reciever, then the antenna for the receiver runs to the rear, so I don't have a lot of area without some sort of electrical activity.
Also, the funjet is not mine, I found the pics in the wiki's images. I looked through most of the pics looking for pics of how things are mounted. I have a Nexstar EP.
Thanks,
Cory

Have a look a this pic http://paparazzi.enac.fr/wiki/index.php/Image:Tiny_v2_1_Funjet.jpg, the gyro is mounted at the >wooden plate just below the xy-ir-sensor. Excellent Idea for a page. I've noticed this sort of information is missing from the site too but I'm waiting for my next pay to purchase the paparazzi hardware...
One thing I noticed in the pics showing the orientation of the IR sensors in the second picture is upside down compared to the first.i.e. in the first the cable connection goes down where as in the second it goes up.Does this matter? From what I've read I don't think it matters but it might be good for people like me who aren't quite sure...Cheers,Bernie.

_______________________________________________I have almost everything I need to install the paparazzi autopilot in my aircraft except the little molex pins, so I am planning how I will mount all of the different bits on the aircraft(high wing trainer).
I started by searching the wiki, and the mailing lists, and I found some of the information I needed.
I took the information I found, and created a new page on the wiki:
http://paparazzi.enac.fr/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Installation <--- Please take a look and add or edit
I didn't make any links to the page yet, pending some further review.
The parts that are still unclear to me are:
1. Is there a particular way that I should mount the gyro? Does orientation matter?
2. Modem
a. How far away from the receiver and antenna is considered safe?
b. Can the xbee module be within a couple of inches away from the motor and speed controller?
3. Is there any special issue with mounting the autopilot, other than making sure the GPS has good signal?
Thanks,
Cory
