Indeed, I was thinking that.  I think the thinking was something that can
be left alone and will continue to maintain the .newsrc file, for those
that use two different readers, maybe PAN locally, and a text reader when
logged in to their machine remotely, or something.  However, now that you
mention it, perhaps a button labeled clearly for one-time import/export,
while keeping the current checkbox for the continued maintenance thing.

Can't really help you there myself, but perhaps drop a line directly to
email, offering?  Addresses are in the about box.  I'm guessing direct
email contact would be best at some point anyway, so might as well
introduce yourself now.
