Pan is unaware of any proxy you may have: it just connects to an nntp
server, on the port you tell it to. So you need to get your proxy to
act like an nntp server. However, you say you have a proxy, so I'm a
bit confused at what isn't working for you.
Alternately, you can use stunel to set up ports on your local machine
that are forwarded via ssl to/from the nntpserver. You could probably
use netcat to do precisely this without the encraption. Netcat and
stunnel are completely protocol ignorant: they just forward ports from
one machine to another.
