I think thats because Jeff just committed the spinlock part. I bet if
you apply it and build it'll go. It applied and built fine vs. my tree,
which hasn't been synced today. On the downside, when I built it and
loaded the modules, it didn't complete loading. Right now the output of
my lsmod looks like this:

Module Size Used by Tainted: PF
snd-au8830 34040 (initializing)
snd-pcm 64672 0 [snd-au8830]
snd-timer 15844 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 3824 0 [snd-au8830]
snd-rawmidi 14624 0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 4336 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd-ac97-codec 41256 0 [snd-au8830]
snd 32580 0 [snd-au8830 snd-pcm snd-timer
snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec]
NVdriver 1063680 10 (autoclean)
vmnet 22752 4
vmmon 20180 0 (unused)
snd-page-alloc 5372 0 [snd-pcm]
3c90x 26316 1

which is really weird. I tried XMMS for the hell of it, and the
driver's definitely not loaded.

Looking back through, when I loaded the module, I got this error:

/sbin/runscript.sh: line 527: 2568 Segmentation fault /sbin/modprobe
$i

/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_controls:984: snd_ctl_open error: No such device

What it means, I have no clue ATM.
