Follow-up Comment #2, patch #10200 (project octave):

Re-reading bug #61945 (for which the behavior of `newplot` was changed), it's
probably not correct to change the "currentaxes" here either. Instead, it
would probably be better if `__next_line_color__.m` and Co. accepted an axes
argument instead of always referring to `gca`...
