Follow-up Comment #6, patch #10060 (project octave):

regarding best practices, I don't know if there's a better way to control this
for tests.  If something did break halfway through, display would not be
restored unless test already preserves that somehow.  I guess it wouldn't be a
bad question over on the octave discourse
