Follow-up Comment #2, patch #10010 (project octave):

I have no idea of how far 'fisheriris.txt' in current and previous statistics
package releases is in use Out There so maybe it should be deprecated first to
avoid breaking code?

Other than that I'd suggest to rather provide a binary mat file (Mercurial
accepts binary files):

save -v7 fisheriris.mat meas species

(BTW I've been looking into your other patch contributions, but it's all in
between the scenes so progresses slowly)
