Follow-up Comment #7, patch #8783 (project octave):

Thanks for the feedback.  I had been looking for some source of new tests, and
it didn't occur to me just to look at the Matlab examples -- that shows what a
newbie I am!

I had already removed  pow10  by the time I read this.  My motivation was that
5e-1 wasn't exactly 0.5.  It now calculates pow10 using integer arithmetic (no
libraries).

I agree that it would be good to give the user a choice between the two
implementations for a while

I've never used mkoctfile, but will give that a go, and get back to you in due
course.
