Follow-up Comment #1:

I rewrote linkprops because it really needed improvement
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/e68788478aa1).  It now seems to
be mostly Matlab compliant, including being able to remove the link between
properties.  With that done I was able to take your version of linkaxes and
get it do do everything Matlab seems to say it should.  We usually credit
contributors with "FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME <address@hidden>" so "Willem Atsma
<address@hidden>".  Is that okay?  Would you prefer something
different?
