Follow-up Comment #4:

Texinfo 7.0 has been released a couple of days ago. And homebrew has already
updated to that version:
https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/texinfo

It looks like that broke building Octave on that platform. E.g.:

The logs are flooded with tens of millions of lines like the following up to
the point that it the overall log is more than 3 GiB large:

2022-11-11T04:59:55.6808870Z Use of uninitialized value $_ in pattern match
(m//) at ../doc/interpreter/mk-qthelp.pl line 30, <$HTML> line 832.


Unfortunately, my perl-knowledge is approximately non-existent. I'd appreciate
if somebody could take a look at the suggestions presented here and adapt them
such that we don't break compatibility with texinfo 6.8 or before.

Raising the priority and severity now that the released version is confirmed
to break the build.
