Follow-up Comment #22:

Finally, I checked in the re-write of gsvd here:
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/4ee01c14fccd.

There's still stuff I don't like.  In particular, if both A and B are
rank-deficient then LAPACK factoring fails, but doesn't indicate that.

Also, the ordering of the multiple-return argument case is different from
Matlab.  There is already bug #60274 for that so it doesn't need to be
addressed here.
