Follow-up Comment #3, bug #60980 (project octave):

Octave usually doesn't bother to implement undocumented Matlab capabilities. 
Because they aren't documented it is hard to ensure compatible behavior.  And
because they aren't documented, they can change without warning between
versions of Matlab.
