Follow-up Comment #23:

I tried the patch and it works fine on dev.

I also tried on stable and it works there too.  It was a little bit more work
because the patch had a .rej file, but it was still trivial.

Since the API doesn't change (there is still a shutdown() function in
liboctinterp even though it now does nothing), I would vote for applying the
patch to stable and merging with default.  The file embedded.cc in
examples/code should also be updated to remove the call to shutdown() which is
no longer necessary.
