Follow-up Comment #1:

I agree that this is incorrect.  The issue is probably that the mouse click is
detected and then successfully processed by the pushbutton.  The 'click' is
never cascaded to underlying objects which in this case would be the Canvas
object for figure 2.  It is that click which updates the current figure
property in the root object.
