Follow-up Comment #17, bug #59053 (project octave):
Very true, "user error" :-) (although it's still not 100 % sure)
But also true, there were motives.
I'd say reason (2) ("subversions", or rather leaving uninstall info out of the
registry) may be the most desired one, and only for dev Octave, and maybe
through a installation or configure option or so.
Reason 1. would be a "Very nice to have".
