Hmmm, while unicode2native couldn't do the job here, unicode2utf8 did.
Anyway I'd like to keep them around a little longer.
Did you try reading the spreadsheet uploaded by the OP? (its XML is encoded in
UTF8, I checked earlier tonight.) I couldn't get meaningful results with
unicode2native.

Anyway, makes me wonder how the Java based interfaces do their job as regards
encoding conversion. They're all OSS but each of them is a daunting pile of
code to dig though.
