Follow-up Comment #6:

I read the Stack Overflow article and that is just wacky.  I guess the
question is whether we care to try for weird-for-weird compatibility with
Matlab or not.  If not, then we can close this report.  Otherwise, we had the
same behavior before so it might not be too hard to bring it back.
