Follow-up Comment #11, bug #58702 (project octave):

Again, maybe it is Octave that is doing this incorrectly.  Using 'gs -h' I
get


 -sOutputFile=<file> select output file: - for stdout, |command for pipe,
                                         embed %d or %ld for page #


By default, Octave sets the output file to '-' for stdout which I suppose it
then pipes to the next command.  This help text says that we should be using
'|' if we want to use a pipe.
