No, I can't deactivate my anti-virus -- can't change or even look at
settings.

As you say, I have other versions of bash on my system (2 on other versions of
Octave, and one at /usr/bin), and they don't cause segmentation faults.  This
may be the wrong forum -- should I be talking to the maintainers of the sh.exe
program for Windows?
