Follow-up Comment #7, bug #57238 (project octave): Changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/5169ed0ff0f0 implements only one find dialog with hopefully more useful initial position and restoring position from the previous session. By restructuring the related code it was not helpful to really separate steps 1 and 2. I hope to have tackled down most issues when editor is undocke/redocked or just changes focus.
