Follow-up Comment #15, bug #57284 (project octave):

I think it is fair to leave it as is. What got me surprised here was that a
MEX file that seemed to be working fine repeatedly on Matlab would segfault
with Octave (for something as specific as having a fourth output argument or
not). But this highlights an issue with the implementation in the MEX file and
it would actually be better if Matlab also crashed in that situation.
